Portfolio

In this assignment, Portfolio, I created a portfolio to showcase my created projects and completed activities and how they relate to all five of the NETS. These educational technology standards are the road map to teaching effectively and growing professionally in an increasingly digital world. My portfolio page stated the national educational technology standard and official description, my personal interpretation, one example of an activity and one project that illustrated the completion of the standard, and my reflection on all projects that illustrated the given standard. I had five pages, one for each standard.

I believe this activity illustrated the following NETS:
-Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance students learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

-Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. They communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.

-Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others. They evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

This project illustrates a reflection using collaborative tools (blogs, definitions, reflections, etc.) to clarify others understanding of the standards. I also communicated relevant information and ideas effectively to all who would view my website. The relevant information and ideas being the standards. The portfolio used the website I created, the blog I created, and the projects I have created. The blog portion of my portfolio contains statements of evaluation and reflection on my created projects. As I reflected, I thought of ways I could improve the project and how I could improve myself as a future teacher all to the end goal of improving students’ learning.

From this experience of created the portfolio I have a greater appreciation for the technology standards. Had I not completed this portfolio, I would not have remembered what the objectives for this class were. It was great to see all that I had accomplished during this 16-week course and all the new skills I have attained. Going into this class I felt confident in my technology skills. I quickly learned that I had a lot left to learn. While I still have a lot left to learn, I feel confident in my problem solving abilities when it comes to technology. I am also aware of all the resources that are available to aid my understanding and my teaching.

In the future, I would like to continue adding to my website and portfolio. I would like to continue pushing my abilities to create new projects. I am so pleased with the ease of Google Sites that I would like to incorporate them into my own teaching if I end up teaching upper grades. I would like to continue documenting completed projects in the portfolio and in my reflection blog.
